Taiwan and Belize have signed two agreements to enhance their longstanding partnership, as part of Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s three-day visit to the Central American nation. The agreements focus on educational collaboration and diplomatic training, reflecting the ongoing commitment to strengthen ties between the two countries.
During his visit, Lin engaged in discussions with Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca on expanding bilateral cooperation. A significant outcome of these discussions was the signing of a letter of intent between the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund. This agreement aims to establish the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy, which will focus on technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the region.
The academy is set to be headquartered at the University of Belize, with Taiwanese universities playing a key role in developing the curriculum and planning the faculty. This initiative is expected to bolster educational ties and provide a platform for cultural and academic exchange.
Additionally, Taiwan and Belize formalized an agreement on cooperation in diplomatic staff training. This agreement is designed to enhance the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service personnel, further strengthening the diplomatic bond between the two nations.
The signing of these agreements signifies a deepening of the relationship between Taiwan and Belize, emphasizing mutual interest in education and diplomatic development. These efforts highlight the broader strategy of fostering regional partnerships and cooperation among Taiwan’s allies in the Caribbean.
