The possibility of extending trading hours on Taiwan’s stock market is currently not a priority, according to the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC). FSC Chairman Peng Jin-lung emphasized that there is no set timeline for such changes, and any decision to extend the trading schedule would require significant consensus among the public and industry stakeholders.

These comments come as the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) is exploring the potential benefits of extending trading hours until 3:30 p.m., compared to the current 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. schedule. The exchange is considering this move to better align with international markets and possibly boost market activity. However, discussions with brokerage firms on this proposal are still ongoing.

In the meantime, the TWSE has announced adjustments to its trading operations. Starting at the end of this year, odd-lot trading will commence at 9:00 a.m., moving up from the previous start time of 9:10 a.m. This change is part of broader efforts to enhance market liquidity and efficiency.

Additionally, the TWSE plans to reduce the order matching interval for odd-lot trades from five seconds to one second, a change expected to take effect next year. This adjustment aims to improve the efficiency of trades and further support market liquidity.
