The World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM) is set to launch in Taipei, bringing together international disaster management officials and experts to enhance global disaster preparedness and response efforts. Hosted by Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang, the event underscores the critical role of international cooperation in managing disasters that transcend national borders.
At the gathering, Minister Lin emphasized the importance of collaboration among nations to build resilience and improve preparedness against natural calamities. The WADM aims to connect governments, emergency response agencies, businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. This network will focus on strengthening disaster prevention, early warning systems, emergency response, and recovery strategies.
Minister Liu highlighted Taiwan’s commitment to sharing its expertise in disaster response, drawing on the nation’s experience receiving international aid after the 1999 Jiji earthquake. Taiwan plans to contribute through professional training initiatives and joint exercises with other countries, reflecting its readiness to lead in global disaster management efforts.
The alliance is expected to facilitate information sharing and capacity building among its members, promoting professional training and practical cooperation. By fostering these international partnerships, the WADM seeks to enhance collective efforts in mitigating the impact of disasters worldwide.
