The European Parliament has released a report acknowledging Taiwan’s significant contributions in technological innovation, resilience, and combating information manipulation, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The report, authored by the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield, positions Taiwan as a crucial partner in safeguarding information integrity and human rights rooted in democratic ideals.
Highlighting Taiwan’s proactive measures, the report praises the island’s civil defense strategies and resilience exercises designed to counter the increasing gray-zone tactics employed by China. The European Parliament suggests that Taiwan’s comprehensive approach could serve as a valuable model for the European Union as it seeks to bolster its own preparedness and resilience strategies.
Further emphasizing Taiwan’s role, the report recognizes the island’s expertise in high-tech development and its adept handling of hybrid attacks and foreign information manipulation. It advocates for heightened cooperation and regular engagement between the EU and East Asian partners, including Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, especially in efforts to counter information manipulation and safeguard undersea communication infrastructure.
In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its commitment to strengthening collaborations with the EU and other international partners to address hybrid threats and information manipulation. The ministry underscored Taiwan’s dedication to promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
