Russia has introduced a visa-free policy for Chinese citizens visiting for tourism, business, cultural events, or family trips — a reciprocal move expected to significantly enhance tourism and economic exchanges between the two countries. The order, signed by President Vladimir Putin, allows Chinese nationals to stay in Russia for up to 30 days and remains valid until September 14, 2026.
The announcement triggered an immediate surge in demand on Chinese travel platforms, with searches for flights to major Russian cities jumping sharply. Many Chinese travellers expressed enthusiasm, seeing the policy as a chance to explore destinations such as St. Petersburg, Moscow, Lake Baikal, and Russia’s Far East.
The visa-free arrangement mirrors China’s earlier decision to allow Russian citizens 30-day visa-free entry under a one-year trial period. This reciprocal setup is already driving cross-border tourism, with travel agencies reporting rising tourist numbers and growing interest in both countries’ cultural and natural attractions.
Experts believe the mutual visa-waiver policies will strengthen people-to-people ties, stimulate regional economies, and support broader cooperation between China and Russia. The increased ease of travel is expected to benefit tourism markets, local industries, and long-standing economic partnerships across the shared border regions.
