A gastroenterologist has highlighted the protective power of pomegranates in a list of seven foods that support liver health. These foods are chosen for their ability to manage inflammation and support metabolism.

Pomegranates are a standout because they are “rich in polyphenols, such as ellagitannins and punicalagins.” The expert notes that research suggests these specific compounds are effective at helping to calm the inflammatory signals that can damage the liver.

The list includes other powerful fruits. Cranberries are praised for their prebiotic polyphenols, which support the crucial gut-liver axis. Raspberries are noted for their high fiber and anthocyanin content, which helps regulate blood sugar and fat processing.

The doctor also suggests smart pairings. Watermelon with lime is recommended for boosting blood flow. Apples with cinnamon are a duo that provides soluble fiber and compounds to support insulin sensitivity and healthy lipid levels.

Beetroot and strawberries with dark chocolate complete the seven. Beetroot is key for its betaine content, which helps the liver process fat. The strawberry-chocolate combo (70%+) is packed with flavanols that support blood vessel and cardiometabolic health.
